The Context
The financial world, like many industries today, is tightly controlled by regulations and compliance requirements. This places an extra burden on the IT support needs and requires the help of a professional IT service company.
The Client
Marathon Capital Group LLC is a privately owned federally registered investment advisor, offering custom designed wealth management services, investment advice and legal expertise to select wealthy families and individuals, private and public companies, trusts and foundations. The business started in March of 2000, just before the peak of the markets. Contrary to what was then in vogue, Marathon Capital espoused a prudent investment program biased towards preservation of capital. This underlying principle was then coupled with a large cap, stable company, and growth at a reasonable price, strategy. Marathon has maintained its preservation of capital bias since inception and has produced steady returns for its clients as a result. Today, it oversees the wealth management programs for over 100 families and companies. Marathon employs nine people.
The Problem
Starting with three partners, Marathon’s IT needs were straightforward at the outset. The company grew and moved offices in 2005. Along with the firm’s expansion, the regulatory and compliance requirements in the finance industry grew significantly. Marathon now has to ensure not only that employees can access the information they need, when they need it, but also that the data is protected and correctly backed up. Bob White, the company’s comptroller, saw the risks of trying to get by with self-help or part-time support. He states that “we needed someone to help us define the right way to run our systems and to protect our data. Also, to help us if we had problems even if that was in the evenings or weekends when many of our client interactions take place.”
Enter All Covered
Marathon first turned to All Covered in 2003 for system and equipment replacement and upgrades and then in 2005 signed an agreement for the All Covered Care support service. Since that time, All Covered has provided on-going support and proactive maintenance for the company. Completed projects have been focused on upgrading servers, adding access for Blackberry devices, improving firewalls and ensuring high network performance. All Covered monitors the Marathon network 24 hours a day and also provides anti-virus and anti-spam protection for the employees’ computers and mailboxes.
The Results
Bob comments that “I’m very happy with the quality of the All Covered people. I can call them whenever I need them, or put requests in the Client Portal for things that can be fixed next time they come to our office.” Marathon also uses All Covered’s Procurement Service for their hardware and software purchasing needs.
