Case Study: St. Andrew's Management Services

At a Glance

A St. Louis based organization shares their expertise in supporting senior care facilities by using All Covered to manage their IT systems and assist with strategic input as needed.

The Context

An information technology (IT) infrastructure often grows over time, but many organizations’ technical needs don't justify a full-time support person. By using a company such as All Covered, they have access to a wide range of skills and resources that a single person just can’t provide.

The Client

Based in St. Louis, St. Andrew's Management Services (STAMS) is part of the broader St. Andrew’s Resources for Seniors organization. STAMS is a recognized leader in creating retirement options for seniors through their management and consulting services to organizations, groups, companies and individuals wishing to build, establish and operate senior housing communities. The organization began in 1961 from a combination of Episcopal and Presbyterian churches. From day-to-day management of new or long-established senior housing facilities, to working hand-in-hand with boards of directors of other residential establishments, STAMS provides the necessary skills and capabilities for the successful operation of many senior communities.

The Problem

With its history going back more than 40 years, St. Andrew’s has grown into a multi-faceted organization encompassing both not-for-profit and for profit activities. STAMS provides financial, operational and supportive services for over 1,700 senior residents in numerous Missouri and Illinois facilities. The organization did not have its own full IT department and needed to establish a relationship with an external company that could provide IT support and advice as IT needs grew.

Enter All Covered

All Covered started providing IT support to STAMS in 2001. In 2002, Greg Elliott was appointed as Chief Financial Officer at STAMS and took on the responsibility for the IT infrastructure. Since then, he has managed the expansion of IT services provided to the care communities in areas such as financial and operational software, email and time reporting. In 2006, STAMS entered into an outsourcing agreement whereby All Covered became its fulldepartment resource for designing, developing, monitoring and controlling allsolutions and support services.

All Covered monitors STAMS servers and key network devices 24 hours a day, as well as providing hosted anti-virus and anti-spam protection for their users. When an issue arises, STAMS benefits from the use of All Covered’s Client Portal to submit requests for service, as well as from the team of technical telephone support specialists.

The Results

All Covered has assisted STAMS with a variety of projects where specialized knowledge was needed, such as Citrix terminal server upgrades, as well as server and firewall enhancements. In addition, STAMS has reduced their number of servers through virtualization technologies with All Covered’s support, which has helped to cut hardware, cooling and energy costs.

As well as day-to-day support, All Covered’s local St. Louis team has assisted STAMS in decisions around the direction of their technology infrastructure. STAMS and All Covered have now successfully partnered for more than 7 years.

Greg Elliott
