Additionally, if a failure is related to a natural disaster such as Hurricane Katrina, it may not even be possible to do all the work locally.

The team at Louisiana’s Medical Center in New Orleans believed that removing the bottom rows of records in the hospital’s basement storage facility would be enough safeguard against Hurricane Katrina. When the levee broke, it was a disaster. Records were lost and mold filled the hospital, ultimately jeopardizing thousands of patients' medical histories. After the devastation of Katrina, many hospitals quickly understood that they needed to find a better and safer way to protect patient records. Many looked to cloud systems to solve their data problems.
